The type of dental cleaning needed is determined on an individual basis after a thorough examination of the overall health of your teeth and gum tissues. Radiographs (x-rays) are necessary for the doctor to determine any potential underlying concerns and areas of decay. Patients with healthy teeth and gums will be placed on a six-month cycle of preventative care entailing a dental cleaning, doctor’s examination, and radiographs (x-rays) periodically as recommended by the American Dental Association. Some patients have more complex dental needs requiring a deep cleaning to remove plaque below the gum line. These patients may also receive a recommendation for more frequent visits to maintain oral health, and/or a referral to a Periodontist (gum specialist).
